Search Engine Marketing (SEM) in Nepal is not a third channel. It is SEO and PPC aimed at the same search results: one query map, one offer, one CTA, one conversion definition. Arjan KC and Gurkha Technology treat that as the search layer of the digital marketing stack. Term: SEM. Service page: SEM Nepal.

What is already proven on this domain

Use evidence objects, not a blended “SEM %.” Organic and paid are measured separately; the method is shared.

CPC ranges for planning (not a national census): Google Ads cost Nepal.

The Nepal SERP is mixed-language and mixed-intent

A Kathmandu buyer types English (best dentist kathmandu), romanized Nepali (dentist ktm), Maps-style (near me), and sometimes Devanagari. Paid and organic that ignore that mix waste CPC. SEM starts with a query map:

  1. Brand — your name and close misspellings (protect with exact-match ads plus SEO).
  2. Commercial heads — service + city (trekking agency pokhara, education consultancy uk).
  3. Near-me / Maps — hours, reviews, and Google Business Profile sit here; they are search, not “a social task.”
  4. Informational — guides that should not eat the Google Ads budget. Send those to inbound and content.

Festival windows (Dashain, Tihar, wedding season) lift CPC. That is a paid-coverage decision, not an SEO excuse.

Why two retainers fail

Typical split: one vendor “does Facebook/Google,” another “does SEO,” a third owns the website. Then:

  • Ads send traffic to a homepage that cannot convert on 4G (mobile, landing pages).
  • SEO publishes a different NPR price than the ad.
  • Quality Score and bounce rate both look “bad” because the page and the query disagree.
  • Conversion tracking is installed twice, or only on the thank-you page after a WhatsApp close that never fires.

SEM is the brief that stops that. IMC is the same idea across every channel; SEM is the search slice.

How the plan is run

Layer Job Nepal note
Query map English + romanized Nepali + negatives Job-seeker and DIY queries leak SME budgets
Landing One primary CTA — form, call, or WhatsApp Sticky tap targets; NPR visible
Tracking GA4 + ads conversions Document WhatsApp/COD as offline or secondary events — conversion tracking
Paid Cover gaps, tests, seasonality Hold monthly spend while you clean search terms — see the CPA object above
Organic Earn what you can keep Technical + content + local; technical SEO
Feedback Winning ad copy becomes title tests; ranking pages can reduce bids Do not turn off brand ads the week organic hits page one without a control

KPI that belong on one dashboard

Paid: CPC, CTR, CPA or CPL, ROAS when checkout is real. Organic: rankings on mapped queries, Maps views/calls, organic-assisted revenue. Shared: qualified leads or revenue — not “sessions.” Vanity traffic is how Nepal briefs pretend a blog quota is SEM.

What this is not

  • Not a synonym for Google Ads.
  • Not two isolated SKUs stapled in a proposal.
  • Not a new case study with invented blended “SEM ROI.” Cite the objects in the table.
