Google Merchant Center & Shopping Feeds in Nepal

Google Merchant Center is the product catalog Google Ads and free listings can use. Nepal D2C brands fail Shopping when prices, availability, or landing pages drift from the feed. Companion read: Merchant Center / NPR feeds.

What this service covers

  • Feed structure (title, ID, price in NPR, availability, image, GTIN/MPN where applicable)
  • Landing-page match (same offer, same price, mobile-fast checkout or WhatsApp path)
  • Disapproval cleanup and policy hygiene
  • Handoff to Shopping or Performance Max asset groups
  • Seasonal SKU waves for Dashain/Tihar without rewriting the homepage

Nepal realities

  • COD and wallet checkout must still be reflected on the landing page
  • Daraz and own-site catalogs are different jobs — do not mix IDs carelessly
  • Thin or duplicate PDPs waste crawl and Shopping eligibility — fix IA with e-commerce SEO first when needed

Nepal Market Context

Many Nepali online sellers keep their real catalogue in Instagram posts, a Daraz shop, or a spreadsheet. Google cannot use any of those. Merchant Center needs a product feed from your own website, with prices in NPR that match the product pages, honest stock status, original photos, and a checkout path that works, whether that is a payment gateway such as eSewa or Khalti, or a clear cash-on-delivery order.

Ad billing for Google is still in US dollars for most Nepali advertisers, so account ownership and card set-up are part of the job, not an afterthought.

How the Work Runs

  1. Catalogue audit: Check product pages, prices, stock, images, and identifiers against Google’s requirements.
  2. Feed build: A feed from your store platform or a maintained spreadsheet, with consistent IDs and titles written for search.
  3. Account set-up: Merchant Center and Google Ads owned by the business, linked, with verified website and shipping settings.
  4. Disapproval cleanup: Fix policy, price-mismatch, and image issues until the catalogue is approved.
  5. Campaign handoff: Product groups ready for Shopping or Performance Max, with purchase or order tracking in place.
  6. Seasonal maintenance: Festival products, price changes, and stock-outs updated before ads spend on them.

Common Mistakes

  • Prices in USD, or “message for price”, instead of NPR on the page.
  • Marketplace or supplier photos with watermarks.
  • Leaving sold-out festival stock live in the feed.
  • Mixing Daraz listings and own-site products in one feed.
  • Launching product ads before orders can be tracked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need our own website to use Merchant Center?

Yes. Products must link to pages on a website you control, with prices and a way to buy. A Facebook Page or Daraz shop does not qualify.

Can we use Merchant Center if we sell by cash on delivery?

Yes, if the product page shows the price and a clear way to order. Track orders as conversions, including ones confirmed by phone or WhatsApp.

Our products have no barcodes. Is that a problem?

No. Handmade or unbranded products can be submitted without a GTIN. Do not invent barcodes.

Why are our products disapproved?

The usual causes are price or stock mismatches between the feed and the page, missing images, or policy issues. Merchant Center lists the reason for each product.

Should we start with Shopping or Performance Max?

Start with a clean feed and reliable order tracking. Standard Shopping gives more control while you learn; Performance Max needs good conversion data.
