Digital Marketing for Travel Agencies in Nepal
Hotels sell rooms; agencies sell itineraries. Arjan KC builds route-level SEO, hyper-local Maps visibility for Thamel and Lakeside offices, seasonal Google Ads, and WhatsApp booking paths for trek and tour operators — separate from the hospitality hub.
Why Work With Me
Route pages
EBC, Annapurna, Langtang, safari add-ons — each needs unique copy and a map, not one “Nepal tour” blob.
Seasonal paid
Spend 6–8 weeks before spring and autumn peaks. Test in cheaper months.
Domestic vs inbound
Nepali festival packages vs English itineraries — never one ad set.
OTA leakage
Owned site + GBP + WhatsApp so Kathmandu aggregators do not own the query.
Thamel and Lakeside Maps
Dozens of agencies share a few streets, so distance barely separates you. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence: the most specific category, a complete profile, real office photos and a steady flow of reviews. Keywords in the business name break Google’s guidelines.
Storefront or service area
A staffed Thamel or Lakeside office with permanent signage can show its address. Google does not accept virtual offices, and a co-working desk qualifies only if it is signed and staffed in business hours. One profile per real, staffed location.
Multilingual listings and reviews
Trekkers review in many languages. Reply in the reviewer’s language and keep the business name in one script; Google’s guidelines do not allow repeating it in several scripts. Route pages in a second language need their own URL and hreflang, not machine-translated widgets.
Trek landing pages
One page per route you operate (Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit) for international searchers: day-by-day itinerary, inclusions and exclusions, guide and permit requirements, departure dates, and a price in the currency the buyer uses.
Direct booking vs OTAs
OTAs bring volume at a commission. Repeat guests, referrals and branded searches should land on your route page, GBP or WhatsApp. Track the booking source each season so OTA dependence is a choice, not an accident.
Schema that matches the page
TravelAgency (a LocalBusiness type) for the office; TouristTrip with itinerary, provider and offers on each route page. Mark up only what the page visibly says. Background: structured data.
Nepal Market Context
Pokhara desks, Thamel agencies, and Chitwan safari add-ons compete with global OTAs and Valley call centres bidding “Everest trek.” City-specific landings and an accurate office GBP matter more than a cinematic brand film. Guides and TIMS/permit language must be accurate; we do not advertise illegal routes. Since 31 March 2023, the Nepal Tourism Board requires trekkers on listed protected-area routes, including Everest Base Camp and the Annapurna Circuit, to go with a licensed guide and carry an agency-issued TIMS card, so route pages for those treks should not sell unguided trips. Hyper-local search in Thamel and Lakeside runs on the Google Business Profile and local SEO basics: one verified, staffed office per profile, consistent name, address and phone across the site and directories, and route pages linked from the profile. Aviation and hotel partners belong as links, not as a substitute for your own pages — see aviation and hospitality. Published hospitality method: Treebones (national case, methods on the case page).
My Process
- Discovery audit: Review accounts, analytics, competitors, and current conversion paths.
- Strategy & roadmap: Prioritized 90-day plan with KPIs, budget tiers in NPR, and quick wins.
- Implementation: Launch or fix campaigns, tracking, content, and technical foundations.
- Optimization cadence: Weekly bid/creative tests; monthly reporting tied to revenue or pipeline.
- Scale & handoff: Document SOPs so your team can maintain momentum after engagement.
Expected Results
Outcomes vary by industry and budget, but here are realistic benchmarks from Nepal campaigns I have managed or audited:
| Metric | Typical Range (Nepal) |
|---|---|
| Primary KPI | Qualified itinerary inquiries / WhatsApp bookings |
| SEO | Route + season clusters; not 500 thin tag pages |
| Paid | Geo and language split; negatives for jobs and visas |
| Maps | Calls, direction requests and website clicks from the Thamel or Lakeside profile |
| Booking mix | Share of bookings from owned site, GBP and WhatsApp vs OTAs, tracked each season |
| Cities | Pokhara · Kathmandu · Chitwan |
Figures are directional — your audit will set targets based on margin, competition, and tracking quality.
Industries I Work With
- E-commerce & D2C brands
- B2B SaaS and IT services
- Professional services (legal, finance, consulting)
- Education and study-abroad consultancies
- Hospitality, restaurants, and local services
Example Outcome
Hospitality city pages already cover lodges. This hub is the operator who packages days. We do not invent occupancy % for agencies.
Itineraries are not hotel rooms
Agencies sell days and routes; lodges sell beds. Kathmandu aggregators bidding “Everest trek” will beat a generic Nepal homepage. Route pages, seasonal Search, and a real office GBP are the baseline.
Most campaigns in Nepal lose on slow mobile pages and vague landing copy — not on audience size. DataReportal’s Digital 2026: Nepal (late 2025) puts internet users at about 16.6 million (~56% of the population), with most people on phones and roughly nine in ten online users on at least one social platform. Kathmandu and the Valley skew higher than remote districts; even in cities, Nepali copy and tight geo-targeting usually beat a one-size English campaign.
Food and restaurant search often sits around NPR 12–30; hotel and trek terms cost more in peak season (benchmark). Meta traffic campaigns often run NPR 80–200 CPM — still sensible compared with bidding “hotel Nepal” from a single city listing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as hotel marketing?
No. Hotels: rooms and GBP. Agencies: itineraries and departures. See hospitality for lodges.
Do you manage TripAdvisor?
Review ops can sit under ORM. This page is owned-channel acquisition.
Student travel / education tours?
Split from study-abroad consultancies — education.
Indian domestic traffic?
Separate creative, payment, and landing language. Do not mix with US/EU trek ads.
How do Thamel and Lakeside trekking agencies rank on Google Maps?
Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. In Thamel or Lakeside most agencies are equally close to the searcher, so relevance (the most specific category, complete details, a site with real route pages) and prominence (reviews, ratings, links and mentions) decide. Use the real business name with no keywords, keep a staffed office with signage, reply to every review, and link the profile to your route pages. See Google Business Profile in Nepal.
