Need to add VAT to a quote, or work out how much VAT is inside a price you already charge? This calculator does both using Nepal’s standard 13% rate. You can change the rate if you need to. Everything runs in your browser.

Add VAT to a price, or find the VAT inside a price that already includes it.

The formulas

  • Add VAT: price including VAT = price before VAT × 1.13.
  • Remove VAT: price before VAT = price including VAT ÷ 1.13.
  • VAT inside an inclusive price = price including VAT × 13 ÷ 113.

Example: a price of NPR 2,000 including VAT is about NPR 1,769.91 before VAT, plus NPR 230.09 VAT.

A common mistake

Many people remove VAT by taking 13% off the inclusive price. On NPR 11,300, that gives NPR 9,831 instead of the correct NPR 10,000. VAT is charged on the price before VAT, so always divide by 1.13 rather than subtracting 13%.

VAT and pricing for marketers and sellers

  • Be clear whether prices include VAT. A quote of “NPR 50,000” and “NPR 50,000 + VAT” differ by NPR 6,500. Say which one you mean on quotes, price lists, and ads.
  • Show customers the price they will pay. Surprise charges at checkout or delivery cause abandoned carts and refused cash-on-delivery orders.
  • Calculate margins before VAT. VAT you collect is owed to the government, not profit. Use the pricing and discount calculator with prices before VAT.
  • Agencies and freelancers: state in proposals whether retainers and ad budgets include VAT, and whether VAT applies to the ad spend you manage or only to your fee.
  • Check your obligations. Registration rules, exemptions, and invoice requirements change over time. Confirm the current rules with the Inland Revenue Department or a qualified tax adviser. This calculator only does the arithmetic.
