Unit 4: Software
This unit explores the world of software, the set of instructions that tells the computer’s hardware what to do. While hardware provides the physical components of a computer, it is the software that makes it useful.
We will differentiate between the two main types of software: System Software, which manages the computer itself (like the operating system), and Application Software, which are the programs we use to perform specific tasks (like a word processor or a web browser). We will also look at the programming languages used to create software and the different ways that software can be acquired.
