Years ago, early in my digital marketing journey, I made a mistake that changed how I approach every client conversation.

We had just wrapped up a three-month campaign for a tourism client. Traffic was up, bounce rate was down, and lead forms were trickling in. I sent over a polished report, full of analytics and acronyms.

Their reply?

“Arjan dai, yo report khatra dekhirako cha, tara aba next step ke ho?”

Translation: “This report looks fancy, but… what are we actually supposed to do now?”

That was a wake-up call.

I realized I wasn’t just sending data—I was sending confusion. And confusion doesn’t build trust. Clarity does.

Less Impressing, More Explaining

In digital marketing, it’s easy to fall into the trap of over-complicating things. We want to show our expertise, so we throw around terms like CTR, retargeting, CPC, ROAS, and multi-touch attribution. It sounds smart.

But it doesn’t serve the client—especially not in Nepal, where many business owners are still learning how digital fits into their overall strategy.

Since that day, I’ve made it my mission to communicate as clearly as I can. No jargon walls. No hiding behind metrics. Just honest, understandable conversations.

A Small Example, Big Impact

Not long ago, we onboarded a client who sells traditional Nepali home goods. Lovely products, strong offline presence, almost zero digital experience.

In our kickoff meeting, instead of diving into platforms or funnels, I asked:

“What do your customers usually ask before buying?”

That question opened up everything.

We ended up restructuring their content strategy based on real questions from the shop floor. The result? Engagement went up, bounce rate dropped, and they actually started getting messages from customers saying, “Yo post le mero confusion clear bhayo.”

Clear communication trickles down into clear marketing.

Why Clarity Builds Trust

Here’s what I’ve noticed over time:

  • Clients who understand what’s happening are more patient with long-term strategies.
  • They’re more involved in content and feedback.
  • And most importantly—they’re more likely to recommend you.

Trust isn’t built through impressive dashboards. It’s built when clients feel like they’re not being talked down to—or left in the dark.

Internal Communication Matters Too

It’s not just clients. Within my team at Gurkha Technology, we’ve made clear communication a core value.

We don’t assume everyone understands the same thing the same way. We explain the “why” behind the “what.” We write briefs like we expect someone to read them while half-asleep on a Friday afternoon (because… they probably are).

Even small habits—like naming files properly or summarizing meetings in plain language—have improved our output and reduced silly mistakes.

But Isn’t Simplicity… Too Simple?

Some marketers worry that simplifying things will make them sound less expert.

I’d argue the opposite: if you really understand something, you can explain it simply.

The smartest marketers I know can explain a Google Ads campaign to a 60-year-old hardware shop owner in Pokhara without losing credibility. That’s not dumbing it down. That’s leveling it up.

Final Thought

In Nepal’s growing digital landscape, trust is still king. And clear communication is one of the fastest ways to earn it.

So whether you’re explaining a content strategy to a business owner, writing a caption for an Instagram reel, or onboarding your next intern—choose clarity. Speak like a human. And don’t underestimate the power of a client saying:

“Ho ni, aba ta bujhe.”

Because when they get it—they stick with you.
