Part A: Software Installation (8 points)

Task 1: Install Microsoft Office (3 points)

Instructions:

  1. Install Microsoft Office on your computer (use trial version if you don’t have a license)
  2. Verify installation by opening Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  3. Take screenshots showing:
    • Installation progress
    • Successfully opened Word application with your name in a document
    • Successfully opened Excel with a simple formula (e.g., =2+2)
    • Successfully opened PowerPoint with one slide

Deliverable:

  • 4 screenshots labeled as Task1_Installation.png, Task1_Word.png, Task1_Excel.png, Task1_PowerPoint.png

Task 2: Install Antivirus Software (2 points)

Instructions:

  1. Install Windows Defender (if not already active) OR install a free antivirus (Avast, AVG, etc.)
  2. Update virus definitions
  3. Run a quick scan
  4. Take screenshots showing:
    • Antivirus dashboard/main screen
    • Updated virus definitions (with date)
    • Completed scan results

Deliverable:

  • 3 screenshots labeled as Task2_Dashboard.png, Task2_Update.png, Task2_Scan.png

Task 3: Software Inventory (3 points)

Instructions:

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features
  2. Create a table listing at least 10 installed programs on your computer
  3. Include the following columns:
    • Software Name
    • Type (System/Application/Utility)
    • Version
    • Size (MB/GB)
    • Installation Date

Deliverable:

  • Table in Word document or Excel spreadsheet named Task3_Inventory.docx or Task3_Inventory.xlsx

Part B: Network Configuration (7 points)

Task 4: IP Address Configuration (3 points)

Instructions:

  1. View your current IP address using ipconfig command
  2. Take a screenshot of the command prompt showing your IP configuration
  3. Document the following information in a Word document:
    • IPv4 Address
    • Subnet Mask
    • Default Gateway
    • DNS Servers
    • Connection type (Wi-Fi or Ethernet)

Task 5: Firewall Configuration (2 points)

Instructions:

  1. Open Windows Defender Firewall
  2. Verify that firewall is turned ON for both Private and Public networks
  3. View the list of allowed apps through firewall
  4. Take screenshots showing:
    • Firewall status (ON/OFF for Private and Public networks)
    • List of allowed apps (at least 5 visible)

Task 6: Internet Connectivity Test (2 points)

Instructions:

  1. Open Command Prompt
  2. Test connectivity to the following websites using ping command:
    • ping google.com

    • ping facebook.com
  3. Take screenshots showing successful ping results (replies received)
  4. Document the average response time for each website

Instructions:

  1. Configure your email account in Microsoft Outlook (or Windows Mail if Outlook not available)

  3. Take screenshots showing:

    • Sent email in Sent Items folder
    • Received email in Inbox
