Unit 4: Wireless, Mobile Computing, and Mobile Commerce
The world is increasingly untethered. The rise of powerful mobile devices and ubiquitous wireless networks has fundamentally changed how we live, work, and conduct business. This shift from wired, desktop-based computing to a mobile-first paradigm has created new industries, disrupted old ones, and introduced a new set of technologies and concepts.

Figure 1: The Mobile Computing Ecosystem
This unit explores the key drivers of this mobile revolution. We will begin by examining the wireless technologies (like Wi-Fi and 5G) that form the foundation of mobile communication. We will then look at how these technologies are used to provide internet access, the principles of mobile computing, and the rapidly growing field of mobile commerce (m-commerce). Finally, we will explore the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), a world where everyday objects are connected to the internet, collecting and transmitting data.
